C O N T E X T O D A C O R - Exhibition.

When you dive into natural dyeing everything becomes visible.

Everything is of influence: the water you use, the minerals in the soil where the plant grew, the temperature of the dye, the time in the pot, your concentration.

The color brings out the invisible. It’s an alchemic process where something dies and another comes to life.

The exhibition was held in the context of the creative entrepreneurship program promoted and managed by ArteriaLab (University of Évora ) and funded by Interreg Magallanes ICC. CACO - Association of Artisans of the Odemira County was the creative hub incubator of the project.

L O M I A.

In December 2021 I was accepted to a ‘call for creative entrepreneurs’ supported by Magallanes_CC, ArteriaLab and a network of creative spaces in rural Alentejo. The final presentation will be in March/April 2022 with a collection of sweaters that highlight the importance of maintaining a relationship between artist, material and community. Resulting in customised clothing on demand, avoiding waste and bringing about social improvements through the process

Lomia is the name of an asteroid in the sky - representing the invisible connections we live with.

csc stands for ‘community supported clothing’ taken as an example of a business model that furthers the connection between artist, material and community.

100 S C A R V E S.

To help finance living expenses during my artistic residency at CACO I created a special pre-order scarf sale where everyone ordering could choose from two designs and adapt it with their own colors (1 > 8colors max). Out of 100 orders only a handful of scarves were chosen identical. This observation was incredible and affirmed that the way we dress could be far more authentic and most people like color choice!

Autumn 2020

P U R P L E S P R I N G.

During Spring 2020 I spent 3 months in Alentejo - happens that the wool in the bag I was bringing, was from where I was going.

Working with one color felt like releasing pattern and sliding into a cool, fresh water lake.

35 S C A R V E S.

35 scarves was a collection made in Lisbon in 2017.

On one of my birthdays I asked close friends and family to order a scarf with me instead of giving a birthday gift. Receiving these 35 orders was the greatest gift I could have wished for at the time. All scarves were made with a manual knitting machine and color picked to the person.

Below you find a selection of jumpers which were made over the years as individual orders, learning pieces or for own use.

Travel has taught me and brought me to where I am today and goes back in my veins as it does in many of us. It has been what came naturally and which has accompanied me whenever life went around the bend. It’s the vision of a horizon, knowing exactly what to bring and what not, it’s the wisdom of timing and the recognition of myself in the unknown. Traveling showed me patterns in life, creativity in daily being and the realisation that we all laugh, cry, work and die and that each one of us has the right to be alive.

Knitting has accompanied me throughout more than two decades. It has allowed me to explore colour and shape as well as create inner peace while knitting on planes, trains, buses, parks, and beaches. Hand knitting, machine knitting, finger knitting. As daily life has been settling into Portugal these past few years, different possibilities are opening up.
